Paint Creek Center for the Arts’ Members Biennial Returns in 2024

The exhibition will showcase the artwork of 48 Michigan artists

Opening reception on May 18 from 4pm-7pm at PCCA

ROCHESTER, Mich., April 22, 2024— Paint Creek Center for the Arts (PCCA) has announced the return of the Members Biennial exhibition, on display at PCCA’s gallery May 19 through June 15 during business hours. The Members Biennial will showcase the artwork of 48 Michigan-based artists who have contributed to and shown support for Paint Creek Center for the Arts’ mission through the purchase of an annual membership.

This exhibition is made possible through the National Endowment for the Arts, Art Works, and the Michigan Arts & Culture Council.

Sponsorship for this exhibition is provided by Genisys Credit Union and Seven South Technology Consulting.

With no set theme, the 2024 Members Biennial encourages Member artists to submit work in a broad range of mediums, themes, and subject matter so long as it suits the all-ages nature of PCCA’s public gallery space. Nearly 60 individual artworks will be displayed in the exhibition.

“The Members Biennial is always a favorite among our students, staff, and the public in general. It allows artists to showcase pieces that not only put their skill on full display, but also demonstrates how far their creative vision can stretch,” said Paint Creek Center for the Arts’ Executive Director, Shaun Hayes.

One of the artists featured in this exhibition is Carol Socks-Parker, whose “Fancy Friends” depicts a trio of bronze birds on planks of petrified wood and natural rock. Socks-Parker said that memory and relics from childhood often provide inspiration for her individual pieces, and she includes those details in her sculptures to add personal touches. “The rocks I used in [‘Fancy Friends’] are ones I have had in my possession since I was twelve years old. I never knew why I held onto them, but I think they found their place of belonging,” she said.

Consistently, Paint Creek Center for the Arts has presented four free public art exhibitions per year, with five exhibitions scheduled for 2024. Through PCCA’s exhibition program, the organization aims to cultivate learning, celebrate artistic excellence, and encourage lifelong involvement in the arts for all, as well as provide valuable exposure and revenue streams for artists living and creating in Michigan.

An opening reception for the 2024 Members Biennial will be held May 18 from 4 p.m. -7 p.m. in the gallery at Paint Creek Center for the Arts, located at 407 Pine Street. This event is free for the public to attend.
