ROCHESTER — The community can join the Paint Creek Center for the Arts (PCCA) for a free, fun-filled day of family art this month.
Shelby Gansler, PCCA’s Communication, Membership & Volunteer Coordinator, said PCCA Saturday is the art center’s newest family-centered program that’s designed to encourage creativity and provide free art making opportunities.
“PCCA Saturday is a program that our education manager, Nafeesah Symonette, had thought of, which is a once-a-month — now turned quarterly — family-friendly art making program,” Gansler explained.
The next creative session, which will be held 11 a.m.-2 p.m. March 14 at PCCA, will include three free drop-in art activities — mini acrylic pours, pinch pot animals and a Polaroid station — thanks to a sponsorship by Cornerstone Lakeview Pediatrics of Rochester and a grant from the Huizenga Fund.
“We wanted to do a mini art display of classes that we offer,” Gansler explained. “We do acrylic pour, ceramics and photography, so we wanted everyone to have a good sprinkle of different projects they could be a part of.”
Graphic artist Stephen Czapiewski, of Oomm Studios in Novi, will be on hand March 14 to make custom cartoon coloring sheets during the event.
“I have a table set out, and kids come to me and ask me to make a character — whether it’s a cartoon character or a comic book character or just something off the top of their heads — and I’ll whip it up real quick for them and take it off the pad of paper and they can color it,” he said. “Usually, I have a lineup of kids. It’s hilarious.”
There will also be balloon animals and snacks, and attendees can check out the final day of the “Creatures Great and Small” exhibition.
Czapiewski encourages everyone to attend PCCA Saturday, which he said have proved to be popular.
“It’s always fun. The kids really enjoy it, and there’s a lot of things to see and do,” he said.
The next PCCA Saturday will be held 11 a.m.-2 p.m. May 30.
